The story opens with Sean, the protagonist, on Vacation in Mexico. He finds messages written in the sand. When he returns to Vancouver, strange things happen in his apartment. His upstairs neighbour, Mandy, is curious about the messages as well. As they investigate, they learn more about a boy, Noble, who died in a fire over a hundred years ago. Mandy is convinced that Noble wants their help. Sean, however, senses that there is something hidden and malevolent about the events. Is Noble just an innocent boy, who also happens to be a Dead’er?
